Car tour in Skjern Enge

Lønborg church

Lønborg Church dates back to the 1100s and stands on an elevated site on Lønborg Banke, from where there is a magnificent view of the restored Skjern Å river system. The church is famous for its numerous chalk paintings, which feature three distinct styles. The charming carillon rings out four times a day. From the top of the church tower, you can see the former manor house Lønborggård, which in Catholic times belonged to the Episcopal seat of Ribe.

Pump Station North

Stop off at the bird-watching tower on Lønborgvej. Continue on to Pump Station North, climb to the top of the roof and enjoy the view. By the pump station, you can also ride the rope ferry to Kalvholm and take a stroll through the delightful countryside. Benches and tables have been set up for you to enjoy a packed lunch.

King Hans Bridge

Visit Skjern Marina and the King Hans Bridge, which is the longest wooden suspension bridge in Denmark. This bridge was built in 2003 close to the site of the old bridge where, on a winter's day in 1513, King Hans fell into the river and subsequently died of pneumonia.

Skjern Å Nature Centre

At the nature centre on Ånumvej, you can see an exhibition about the fish that live in the river. Read about the Skjern Å river salmon, whose living conditions have been improved following the restoration of the Skjern Å river.
