Tour of the city - Ringkøbing
Soak up the atmosphere of the charming town square in Ringkøbing, by the old County Hall and the former merchant's villa that is now Hotel Ringkøbing. Call in at the tourist information office and pick up a brochure about the exquisite old houses designed by architects such as Plesner.
Behind the square stands Ringkøbing Church, which dates back to the 1400s. The church is decorated with a modern altarpiece: “The Resurrection”, painted by Arne Haugen Sørensen. The beautiful glass christening font was designed by the same artist, and made by Per Hebsgård.
Follow one of the charming old streets down to the water and enjoy the ambience of the harbour environment. Attractions here include Jens Galschiøt's thought-provoking statue: “Survival of the Fattest”.
Ringkøbing Museum relates a thousand years of West Jutland History. Here you can see, for example, the exhibition about the town's famous son Mylius Erichsen and the “Denmark expedition to uncharted North-east Greenland”.
Enjoy a delicious meal at one of the charming cafés and restaurants, and round off the day by following the criers of the watch, who walk their rounds through the streets of Ringkøbing every evening in July and August.
